Are you looking to freshen up your home in the New Year? Whether you want to sell at top dollar or enjoy a remodel all to yourself, it’s a good idea to look at what’s coming up in design and what is on it’s way out before making those decisions!
For this post, I looked at some of the move-in ready models available in Ann Arbor at Toll Brothers. Even if you’re buying new construction, it is highly advantageous (and comes at no additional cost) to work with an agent. Otherwise, who will represent YOU in the transaction? These homes are beautiful, and full of great design ideas for the New Year.
Built ins are back! How fantastic is this feature wall of built in cabinets? The X patterned shelves, the lighting, and the colors are all a designer’s dream. Area rugs to protect those brand new hardwood floors are a must, and a great way to bring in your own pop of color or design.
The home office is becoming a focal point and prominent feature in many homes. Today’s households regularly feature one or two adults working from home, and we want that space to be as appealing and enjoyable as possible! It should also be well lit – as you see in the above photo with recessed lighting, a large fixture and a task lamp at the desk. No eye sores here!
Multi-use spaces in smaller homes are a huge bonus. Here, an office also functions as the guest bedroom. Navy has been on the stage for a while now as an accent color, and I don’t think it is going anywhere soon. It’s calming and sophisticated, and pairs well with any neutral.
Tile everywhere! Completely tiled bathrooms can be seen in so much of the new construction that’s out there. No one uses shower inserts any more, and the larger the en suite is, the better! I absolutely LOVE a good freestanding tub, and this one contrasts beautifully with the square edges elsewhere in the bathroom.
The fireplace as art. Rather than the TV being a focal point, let’s gather around the fire with each other’s company or a good book. In the age of tech overload, many homes are hiding the TV (of course it’s still there) and focusing on gathering instead. Fireplaces are as unique as the people living in the home, and a great way to show off family photos, artwork, or heirloom pieces.
So much storage – and I even think these cabinets should go all the way up to the ceiling. It would elongate the room, provide a bit more storage, and who wants to dust up there anyways? The kitchen island is another place to gather, offers additional storage space and creates a kitchen area that is separate in an otherwise open concept home.
